CHEON COUNTY
"Wolmyeongsan Mountain"
Seocheon-gun was an important military strategic point during the Ungjin and Sabi era of Baekje. The Seocheon area, including Gibeolpo (present-day Janghang), was considered an important gateway for the protection of Sabiseong, the last capital of the Baekje Kingdom, and a granary for the crops harvested from the rich, fertile lands. During foreign invasions, it played the role of a “maginot line” together with Deuganseong Fortress of Nonsan
As if to evidence its historical significance, there remain a number of fortresses dating from the Baekje period: Geonjisanseong Fortress in Hansan-myeon, which is speculated to have been the base for the Baekje Revival Movement to revive Baekje, which had fallen to the Nadang allied forces; Namsanseong Fortress, situated in Seocheon-eup; and Buldanggoksanseong and Gwanjeokgoksanseong fortresses situated in Biin-myeon. Of these fortresses, the Gwanjeokgoksanseong Fortress in Biin-myeon offers a full view of the hilly area to the northeast and the West Sea to the northwest all the way to Anmyeondo Island and to the southwest. From this, one can infer its importance as a military strategic point.
This fortress is located in Wolmyeongsan Mountain (289m), which is a well-known mountain of Biin-myeon. Although it is not that tall, it offers a full view of Biin-myeon nearby and the spectacular view of the West Sea existing harmoniously with the rias coast of Seocheon from the southwest to the southeast direction.
